March – June 1999: Brussels and Belgrade steer into the last bombing on European soil — the military stand-off between the Yugoslav Milosevic regime and NATO. For Germany it is a rupture with its own past — the first time the country goes to war since 1945, its new government waging a “War for Peace” led by the very Greens who had built their movement on pacifism. Throughout the conflict — nicknamed by the Yugoslav people MERCIFUL ANGEL — six people on both sides question their roles, challenged whether they can bear the high price of fighting what they believe is ‘the evil’.
